Is the 3G iPhone worth the Hype?

by Jennifer Quirk

There is a lot to live up to when you are the second coming of the most eagerly awaited and fastest selling mobile phones ever, and we were promised that the iPhone 3G would cut the mustard. By the majority, those that have gone out and bought the iPhone are certainly ready to big it up and defend it against the non-believers.

The first thing that is different about this second version is not the way it looks, the only the difference between the look being that the metal back cover has been substituted for a more light weight slick black plastic. To really see the difference of the 3G you need to delve inside.

The most talked about differences are the speed of the internet and the quality of the GPS and map software. The 3G technology that is in the new iPhone is certainly a key feature to make this an improvement to the original, with the sluggish browsing speeds and downloads being a chore being a huge low point for the original iPhone.

Reviews from around the web report that the internet is pretty much instant and the GPS and Google maps co-op software can (when in a good wi-fi spot) be sensitive and accurate enough to recognise when you turn around to a different direction. Many are saying they soon feel they could not be without this new technology and it is a very helpful feature.

As you will soon be able to download freely a huge number of public build additions for the iPhone specifically, one add on that is proving very popular is a Google maps sharing application. Once you receive permission from those using the iPhone as well as yourself, a little announcement will sound with a live map location when they come within a certain distance of you. This makes meeting up or even bumping into each other much more organised!

These public created features are proving to be a real selling point for those looking to make the iPhone experience more personalised. You will be able to add live football updates, music videos and news, movie reviews and trailers or even the latest cooking tips straight to your handset so it is completely personal to you.

The only disappointments that seem to be a regular occurrence are that the mobile phone camera is still limited to two mega pixel; something that many feel should have been updated. Many others are disappointed that they are unable to create videos or use the songs on they media player as ring tones. It is somewhat surprising that these are not features in what is largely considered the best phone in the world, however the masses have disregarding them as unnecessary and are pleased with what the iPhone does actually offer exclusively.
